This stunning series of three traditional soot ink and seawater paintings captures the dynamic waves surrounding Awaji Island, each piece reflecting a unique moment in time from different directions from the coastline, and the ever changing nature of life.
From calm, gentle ripples to turbulent, crashing waves, each painting symbolises different conditions and experiences, representing the ever changing nature of life’s circumstances in a single place.
Made from soot ink from the driftwood remains that washed ashore combined with the sea itself, these ink paintings truly connect with environment in which they were painted.
Mounted in a handcrafted three-aperture wooden frame from Awaji Island itself, this piece is not only a tribute to the island’s natural beauty but also a meditation on resilience and transformation.
The ink for this series of paintings is made from driftwood charcoal soot mixed with the seawater taken from each of the locations represented.
