Japan-Aesthetic: "Wabi-Sabi " Traditional Ink & Kintsugi Art Workshop
Discover the beauty of imperfection through the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, the practice of repairing broken pottery with golden seams. Far more than a craft, Kintsugi is a philosophy: it teaches us that breakage and repair are not something to hide, but something to celebrate. The cracks become part of the story, turning the piece into something even more beautiful than before.
Join acclaimed expedition and adventure artist Colin Parker fresh from his travels in either a relaxed cafe / workspace setting in the heart of the vibrant city centre of Southampton, or the studio at the Earth Museum on the Isle of Wight, for an experience filled with far eastern inspiration & philosophy, and hands-on creativeness.
In this workshop, you’ll be invited to:
🌿 Break and remake – Begin by carefully breaking a piece of Japanese pottery, then learn traditional-inspired Kintsugi techniques to restore it.
🌿 Embrace the philosophy – Explore the deeper meaning of Kintsugi: resilience, transformation, and the beauty of imperfection.
🌿 Create and reflect – Work at a mindful pace, enjoying the process as much as the outcome.
🌿 Take home your masterpiece – At the end of the session, you’ll carry home a unique, golden-lined piece of pottery—an object rich in symbolism and personal meaning.
This is not just about mending ceramics, it’s about mending perspectives. Through Kintsugi, we are reminded that our own cracks, challenges, and scars can be seen not as flaws, but as part of what makes us whole, human, and beautiful.
Join us for a workshop where craft and philosophy meet, and leave with more than just pottery. You’ll leave with a story you’ve created, along with a certificate of completion to commemorate your experience.
